House Boat ( Airconditioned) - Alleppey

If you are cherishing the idea of spending some good time, amidst the sights and sounds of the hydrosphere, then step into a country boat and wind through the labyrinth of canals in Alappuzha. While cruising through these canals, one would come across many interesting aspects of day-to-day life on the land as well as on water.

Wherever you are in these endless backwaters, the chances of one coming across some of the inspiring and interesting vistas on and along the canals are not limited. It could be in the form of panoramic paddy fields; coconut lagoons; pied King Fishers hurtling down to catch fish etc. Among other common sights that one would come across during the cruise are isolated islands; men on country boats engaged in fishing and shepherding their ducks to new pastures, cargo being moved in huge boats called rice barges or Kettu Vallams and school children being ferried across the canal.

At a houseboat cruise, you'll set sail in a traditional Kettuvallom, Equipped with the State of the art luxuries and safety measures.

Traditionally, the houseboat was called kettuvallom, which means a boat made by tying together pieces of wood. Incredible it may sound, not a single nail is used in the making of a kettuvallom. Jack wood planks are joined together with coir rope and then coated with black resin made from boiled cashew nut shells. Today, these giant 80-foot long crafts have been adapted into luxuriously furnished houseboats. A kettuvallom usually has one, two or three bath attached bedrooms, an open lounge, deck, kitchenette and a crew comprising oarsmen, a cook and guide.

| Each houseboat is of excellent construction and luxurious furnishing, with exquisite flooring, hull and valavara (canopy).
| Houseboat is provided with a sun deck, spacious living / dining area (200 sq. ft.), one, two and three bedrooms (varying from 100 sq. ft.- 130 sq. ft.), separate toilets for the crew, spacious passage and a neat, classy kitchen (75 sq. ft.).
| Adequate numbers of buoys are provided and so are fire buckets.
| The boat has plentiful supply of purified water.
| Clean, good quality linen, blankets, towels etc. and high quality crockery and glassware are used on the boat.
| Logbooks and tourist records are updated regularly and the boat has a valid license. Uniformed experienced staff conversant in English mans the boat.
| Solid wastes and sewage are not directly discharged into the water, bio-chemical alternatives are provided and for energy requirements solar power is used.
| The services of professional cooks are available on the boat.
