Ayurvedic medicine
is an ancient system of health care that is native to the Indian
subcontinent. Kerala, the land of Ayurveda, practices this system
of medicine with absolute dedication. The equable climate, natural
abundance of forests (with a wealth of herbs and medicinal plants),
and the cool monsoon season (June - November) are best suited
for Ayurveda's curative and restorative packages.
Ayurveda
is a complete naturalistic system that depends on the diagnosis
of body's humours - vata, pitta and kapha - to achieve the right
balance. They help to eliminate all toxic imbalances from the
body and thus regain resistance and good health the natural
way.
Knowledge about Ayurvedic type of medicine is divided into eight
branches. The branches are
1. Kaya chikilsa
(general medicine), 2. Shalya
(surgery), 3. Shalakya
(ENT and Ophthalmology), 4. Graha
(Psychotherapy), 5. Damshitra
(toxicology), 6. Bala
(Pediatrics and Gynecology), 7. Jara
(rejuvenation) and 8. Vrishya
(Aphrodisiacs).
